Cineaste is a film discovery and taste intelligence platform for people who feel films, not just watch them. We built a new layer on top of conventional film data — one that understands the emotional and atmospheric texture of cinema.
What We Built
Most film platforms organise around genres and star ratings. We thought that missed the point. When you love a film, you rarely love it because it's a "thriller" — you love it because of how it felt. The hum of tension, the aching nostalgia, the cold urban detachment.
Cineaste maps films and users onto a shared emotional coordinate system. Log what you watch, rate what you feel, and the platform builds a taste profile that actually reflects you — not just a list of genres you've ticked.
The Mood DNA System
Every film in our database is scored across 24 mood dimensions by our ANIMA engine — a proprietary tagging system built from the ground up for cinema. These aren't genres. They're atmospheric and emotional fingerprints.
As you interact with films, your own Mood DNA profile takes shape — a 24-dimensional vector that represents your taste. From there, we surface films that resonate with you, connect you with users who share your sensibility, and let you blend DNA profiles to find films you'd both love.

Cineaste is free to use. The Standard plan gives you the full logging, library, and basic discovery experience forever. Auteur unlocks advanced DNA features, unlimited lists, collaborative lists, DNA Blend, and priority AI access.
